Benjamin Moore has received certification at the Silver level from the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute for its greenest paint Natura, professional coating Ultra Spec 500 and zero-VOC waterborne colorants. Benjamin Moore showcased these products at the Greenbuild International Conference & Expo, the premier industry event for sustainable building. Benjamin Moore is the first premium paint manufacturer to earn this designation from MBDC, a world-renowned firm founded by architect William McDonough and chemist Dr. Michael Braungart. MBDC originated the Cradle to Cradle design framework that helps companies go beyond minimizing harm and move towards creating a wholly positive impact on the planet. The Cradle to Cradle Certified designation is given to products that meet stringent requirements across five categories: material health, material reutilization, renewable energy, carbon management, water stewardship and social fairness. This rigorous and comprehensive environmental certification is Benjamin Moore’s latest step in its long history and commitment to manufacturing sustainable and premium paints and coatings, the company said. Since Benjamin Moore has earned the Cradle to Cradle Certified designation at the Silver level for these products, they qualify for credit in the section Materials and Resources Credit, Building Product Disclosure and Optimization – Material Ingredients under Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, Version 4, better known as LEED v4 (Green Building Program), which encourages the use of materials that have preferable lifecycle impact. Natura is a premium zero-VOC product with zero emissions that provides both beautiful and durable hiding. Ultra Spec 500 is a professional quality, ultra-durable, zero-VOC formula that carries MPI approval in multiple categories and is optimized to make any commercial interior paint project go smoothly. Benjamin Moore paints are made exclusively with its patented Gennex zero-VOC waterborne colorants that consistently deliver durability in any color.
